Hello everyone,

I would like to build a system to use at home and to do some video editing on. This will be my first time attempting this and even though I've been researching Im still very confused on a lot of things.

Here is what I would like to do with the system.
Run Adobe CS6 and photoshop from their service
College homework
Online meetings
And the family will need to use the system for their everyday needs also.

Any direction and advise on how to approach this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Solution
Yes the system I posted is very easy to upgrade. The psu can handle anything you want to add in there and the case is a good, sturdy one that should last you a long time. You can add more ram, replace the gpu, add more HDDs/SSDs, etc.

Assembling a computer is very easy. All you need to do is plug this into that and you're done. It's all a matter of common sense: if it doesn't fit, don't force it in.

The stock cases on the 300R and the stock cooler with the i7-4770 should keep your computer cool enough, though it won't necessarily be quiet. The stock cooler that comes with the processor is meant to be loud, but it's free. If you really want to minimize the sound, you would want to spend the extra money on this case...
It seems like your build will be focused mostly on processing power over graphic power as you did not list anything that needs a decent gpu.
We can be of better assistance if you can answer these questions:
-What is your budget?
-Do you need a monitor/os?
-Where do you live (So we know which online retailer to use)?

What's your budget? Here's a nice build for $750. If you don't need an SSD, you could easily drop $100. Also, you could downgrade the graphics card a little and still be fine.

Hi realhaos

Thanks for the response

Im looking to keep the systembetween $1000 & $2000

I have a monitor but its old and Im going to need to relace it. I will also need an OS was thinking windows 7 64bit

I live in the state of delaware.

I also wanted to clarify the video editing I will be doing. Ill be working with hd music videos for the band I promote. Not sure if it makes a difference but figured I would throw it out there.

It definitely should, it'll run fast, especially if you put CS6 on the SSD. Also, if you need any more performance for CS6 (and I highly doubt you will) you can get a good Ivy Bridge i5 for about $50-60 more.

You should go for this:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($104.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($129.94 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB Video Card ($115.38 @ Newegg)

Sure it's more expensive, but if you're serious about the work you do, you definitely want more than an i3 and 8gb of ram.
An i7 and 16gb of ram is ideal for anyone who wants to do video editing and rendering.
The XFX 650w psu may be overkill, but it's at a good price and it can handle any upgrade you want in the future.
I also dropped the SSD to keep the price low, but if you want to add one then you can add this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz7te120bw

For a monitor, an IPS monitor will suite your needs. This is a great 23" IPS monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vs239hp
Great image quality and Asus is a very reliable brand.

Also, will you be doing music editing or video editing? Because if you're going to do some music editing and you need to clearly listen to the music, then you might want a sound card. If you're just editing music videos, and you don't really need to listen to the crystal sound of it, then you can stick with the motherboard's onboard audio.

Thank you Sylvanriv

I will probably go with an ivy bridge i5 just to be safe.

I hope putting a computer together isnt to difficult to do. All the research I was doing had me scared with all the talk of needing 3-5 hard drives and raid configurations and a lot of other specs and setting configurations I didnt understand.

Thank you realchaos

I may be doing some minor audio editing while doing the videos. I will probably get a sound card because when the band is editing out new songs I listen and give my input to the music from a remote location because we are scattered around the globe.

Will I be able to expand on this system if I build it? Sorry for all the questions but Im not build savy :)

Is hard to actually assemble a computer and what do I do about keepin the system cool and quiet?

The Define R4 is optimized around silence, as it includes sound-dampening foam inside to reduce noise vibrations. It's the most silent case on the market right now.

Solution
I don't know why you would want to add a second gpu though. Something like the GTX 650 ti/GTX 650 ti boost/Radeon HD 7770 is more than enough for your needs. Also, if you do need an upgrade in gpu, you're better off selling the old one and buying a single better gpu instead of crossfire/SLI 2 weak gpus.
