Internet not working XP

can't connect to internet.

THE STORY
*I was playing Age of Empires 2 with my brother
*all of a sudden the game freezes
*I ctrl+alt+del the process and not the application
*the music was stuck running while the game closed just fine
*I restarted my computer as a result
*now my internet stopped working

AREA OF AFFECT
*Just my windows partition.
*Other computers on the same router are working
*I dual booted to linux and its working fine here. (made this post from it)
*ipconfig yields no info

Have you checked to make sure that the network card is still shown as working properly in Windows' Device Manager?

Not sure, here's a screen of my network adaptors. I was using hotspot shield but tried to disable as many of the background processes it ran as possible. This may be because I did that. Like I disabled something I shouldn't have in the services.msc. I just went through and re-enabled anything and everything that looked even remotely network related with no luck.

Delete those and then reinstsll it

I downloaded this

and used the setup.exe to "repair" the driver. This didn't work.

I would have uninstalled like you suggested, but the various devices wouldn't uninstall. I got error messages saying that they may be needed for the computer to start.

Reset your winsock settings. Download this tool here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html , run it and then restart your machine.

Ok I was supposed to reinstall that driver thing. Before I did a repair thinking that was good enough, but it wasn't. This is the installer that I linked earlier(It had an option to delete the driver as well as repair it). So I deleted it, restarted my computer then installed it all over again and it worked like magic.

Unfortunately this was after I had already used the system restore to take my computer back in time 2 months. Chrome and Firefox don't work anymore thanks to that and I'm currently posting on IE while I reinstall....

Good, glad to hear it. That 'remove system files and system might not start' is a pretty common generic error message warning and most of the time it is okay to uninstall and then reinstall.
