Is it possible to interface the wifi from a smart phone to a modem ? if so whats the procedure

I have an internet connection via modem to my desktop. I am intending to get a mobile internet connection for my smart phone from another provider.
With the mobile internet my intention was to disconnect the internet to laptop via modem and use the same modem as an interface between smartphone and desk top.

No you can't get internet from the phone to the modem it does not work that way. For the modem the internet must be coming from either the cable or DSL line. How ever if your phone has WiFi Hotspot you can get internet from the phone to the Laptop though WiFi but as said not to the modem itself. If you are wanting to turn your internet service off I hope your internet phone plan is unlimited otherwise you could rack up a huge phone bill very fast.

To rap up you will need to have Tethering & mobil Hotspot option on the phone and WiFi on the laptop for this to work. Basically you are making the phone your modem and WiFi Router and connecting your laptop to the phone.
