Is 128g enough for gaming or should I step up to 250g

This is my first pc build. It is a gaming computer. I had help putting this build together because I am completely new to this. The ssd recommended to me was the Plextor PX-128M5Pro Xtreme 128GB. I didn't really think about it until now, but will that be enough? If I needed more room I could get the Samsung 840 evo 250g off of newegg. What do you think. Thanks for your time.

Here is my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Philosophia/saved/3cuk

yes, if you leave the ssd only for a few games that you play most often and the rest on the hdd you should be fine. but if the pricing of the 250 gb drive is similar, that's a better value in my opinion.

edit: sorry for the confusion, i didnt see the seagate on the part picker link at first.

edit2: what i mean about value, is that the difference in speed for ssd-s is most noticeable when you go from hdd to ssd. between the a ssd model and another, the differences are barely on the double digit percents so in that case, the capacity is what should dictate your decision, or price/gb:

So you're saying if I'm getting the plextor and Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive stick with that? Sorry I think the way you worded it confused me.

Hi
I would change the SSD with this one :
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz7te120bw

I think the rest is OK !
After all you can have nice gaming wit HDD also ........after all there was GAMING before SSD shows up ... :)
Having SSD for OS drive will make you system agile .....
Installing the game on SSD will improve the Game load time like 200 - 300 % ........
So bigger is better :)
Merry Christmass !

The Plextor PX-128M5Pro Xtreme 128GB is around $135 at microcenter and the samsung 840 evo 250g is on sale for $165 on newegg. How much slower is the samsung 840?

on average i would say... 10-20% slower writes and 5-10% slower reads. not enough in my opinion so i would say to get the 250g drive. yes, 128 is enough, but with 250 you can use it for most all you games without having to worry about the available space. it also makes for extra space available in case microsoft decides to make win9 100gb.

I'm curious, if I was going to stay in the 128g ssd range why do the samsung 840 evo? Isn't the plextor or the samsung 840 pro faster with a little bit of extra room?

Samsung EVO is the first compleate series offering 120 ; 250 ; 512 ; 750 and 1000 GB SSD
Also they are very well priced also the advantage of the Plextor is 20 -30 % that is not low but for extra 100$
F.e.
SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE250BW 2.5" 250GB - $162.99
Plextor M5P Series PX-256M5P 2.5" 256GB - $262.87

I don't want to spend that much more money. I was going to go with the plextor 128g originally. The samsung 840 evo 250g is on sale right now for $165 that is why I was considering it. It seemed like you thought I should stick with a 128g run The os and a few games on the ssd and just throw the rest on the HHD or am I mistaken? Do you think the speed of the plextor is more worth it than the capacity of the samsung?

Currently the modern 3rd generation SATA 3 6Gb/s 256GB solid state drives are in the sweet spot. They represent the best value for the money. You can load your operating system, software applications, utilities, and games all on one drive.

I normally recommend Samsung. Samsung ssd's perform extremely well and have a proven track record. Intel, Corsair, and Plextor are also worth considering. The newest SanDisk ssd's are also proving to be very good.

Two days ago newegg had the Crucial M500 SATA 3, 6Gbs, 256GB ssd on sale for $129.99. It was on the special email promotion page. That is the lowest price I have yet seen for a 256GB drive.

I maintain the ssd database listed in a sticky at the very top of this forum section. Here is the link:
