Hi,

I prefer gaming with a controller than Keyboard/Mouse but Xbox controller for PC is too expensive for my liking, So I was thinking if I buy a third party controller, for example Logitech Gamepad F310 which has similar layout of that of the Xbox controller will it support all the games that the Xbox controller would support or would I have to run any third party applications.

BTW: I have a Dualshock 3 controller from my YLOD PS3, can I use that instead of the Logitech one.

You can use the PS3 controller, emulated as a xbox 360 controller. You'll need a piece of software called motioninjoy which can be tricky to set up, but it works really well once running. You can even use your controller over bluetooth, so in that way it is better than plugging in an xbox controller.

Also, I don't know whether you were aware, but the official wired xbox controllers do work for PC. You don't need a specific one for PC. And when it comes to 3rd party controllers, unless they are advertising that they are better than the official controller, they tend to be utter rubbish and not worth any amount of money.
