Hey guys, I just recently bought a computer and I've noticed that my FPS is criminally low. I checked my drivers and it looks like my GPU has drivers from 2012 on it. When I look in device manager, it shows I have version 9.12.0.0 from amd. I tried downloading the newest drivers but it still shows the same version. I tried custom downloading the driver and it says my 9.12.0.0 display driver is up to date.. But its not actually up to date.

Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well the plus side is simple actually. If you take that PSU and GPU out of that low end computer, and slap it, for example Walmart i5, 8GB DDR3, 500GB+, DVD systems for only $349, you should have a system that can play 1080p High Graphics around 40FPS on BF4 64Man map. Some numbers for the card are listed here with some games but I believe they were tested on a i7 Core http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8970M.90656.0.html.

Other examples are : Current 4th Gen i5, $479.99 + $9.99 Shipping

Or for a little more this awesome deal: i7...

Windows always shows that build number, but its not related to catalyst, its for the generic GPU driver.
Laptops usually get their drivers from the manufacturer, better check yours webpage.
BTW amd driver suite is called catalyst control centre, did you install it?

Uninstall all AMD drivers. Download and run Driver Sweeper to really remove AMD. Reboot. Go to www.amd.com and download the latest drivers (catalyst software suite). Download and run Slim Drivers to update ALL drivers (no need to reboot inbetween each one, just reboot on the last one you finish installing).

Then run SPECCY, copy and past that info here and what games your 'slow' in, as well as what video settings you put them on.

I'm running about 15 FPS in AC4 in the cities. I'm running it with 1080p and high graphic settings. However, when I turn most of these settings to low my FPS doesn't move up much

UHmm yeah that is because the APU (combination CPU and GPU) is meant for 'low end general use' NOT GAMING, and especially new 2013 games which all require REAL CPUs to run them. There are MANY threads here you can read up on about the APU, but really it is BELOW a i3 and most AMD CPUs in performance, so it chokes the life (15FPS) out of gameplay. As I said, it was meant for Grandma to do her Email and surf websites , that was really all it was meant for. Anything else is too 'much' for it to handle.

Case in point whether you run it low settings or high graphics performance is still the same, yes because the APU is bottlenecking. Your best bet would be to move to a i5/AMD-8xxx system or to a i7, and sell this off to someone for low end use.

So basically I just bought a computer with a high end gaming card that won't run high end games? You've got to be kidding me

Or for a little more this awesome deal: i7 4th Gen $599.99 + Free Shipping (Personally this would be a freaken awesome combo for you)

If your set about AMD CPUs, you can get around the same price but the performance of anything BELOW a FX-8xxx is equal to a i3 Core (entry level CPU), only the FX-8xxx can get up to i5 (mid level and gaming) performance. Nothing still challenges the i7s sadly :(

The computer in question is a laptop.. Can I replace the processor in a laptop?

No you can't replace a APU core with another CPU first off, the mobo is only made for the APU. Secondly, no laptops are made to manufacturer specs and only those specs, there is no 'modding' them in any way.

So how much will the A10 restrict my computer graphics wise? Can I get a numerical FPS answer on that? I think I'm getting an average of 20 FPS on AC4 and the reported FPS is 27.. Should I expect a 25% decrease in FPS moving foward?

All depends on the game. Some games won't even play on some of the APUs AT ALL. Now some people are willing to play between 15-30FPS as 'playable' but they need to turn the graphics to LOW / Sucky, and displays are usually 1280x1024 or less to just 'make it work'. Personally I didn't spend that money on a computer NOR on a game to have crappy graphics.. slowo..o.o..oowww... game play.. and very little 'real estate' display (everything is freaken huge!).

Here is some numbers based on the A10-4600M http://www.notebookcheck.net/Trinity-in-Review-AMD-A10-4600M-APU.74852.0.html

Personally I play 1080p (1920x1080) all the time, and I expect at least 45FPS to be 'playable' on games, because I suck otherwise when lower (lots of dying).
