Hello everyone, I bought a APC Battery Backup 350 for my gaming computer I built and I am having a few problems with it. When I got the Backup I plugged everything in and tested it by unplugging the backup from the wall and everything worked, it sustained my computer with the battery and my reaction was that it works. But when the power does actually does go off my computer just shuts down with no warning and no time to properly turn off the computer. All that happens is that the second the power goes off my computer shuts off and then the battery backup just beeps. I have tried this both ways when the power actually goes off naturally and when you shut the power off using the circuits for your house, it all does that same thing. I do not have a warranty on this backup and I could really use some help if anyone did have any info that I could use. Thanks!

Right,so its not a brand new unit.
It appears that either the battery has failed or the battery charging circuit has failed.
Have you left this unit with no power for a period of time as these UPS units tend to use lead acid batteries which can fail if they are allowed to discharge completely.

So you are saying that if you have a power cut that it does not work, but if you unplug it from the wall then it does.
If that is so then there may be a problem with your mains power.
Try it in a different outlet.
Check that the outlet is wired correctly especially that live and neutral are not reversed and that the ground is properly grounded.
If you have a voltmeter (multimeter) check voltage on the outlet with the power off (live to neutral, live to ground, neutral to ground).

The APC Back-UPS 350 ES is rated to 350VA or 200 Watts.
The APC Back-UPS 350 is rated to 350VA or 210 Watts.

Your PC may be drawing too much power from the UPS. This can cause it to drain (then ruin) the SLA battery inside the UPS.

Do You have a way to figure out how much power Your PC is drawing?

Recyled, I have a 750 Watt power supply in my computer.
Makkem, Do I have to try a completely different outlet or can I just try to plug the battery backup into the other wall socket? Like you know how one outlet have two sockets? Could I just try the other socket?

Hi
first to recycled, if the computer is flattening the battery then why does it work when it is unplugged from the wall, surely this suggests that the battery is fully charged but that something else is preventing the UPS from functioning.
Now MtnDrew,no you really need to try it in a completely different outlet as twin sockets will be wired the same, but you need not move your PC just move the UPS to a different room plug it in and plug something like a hifi or radio or something into it and try it.

Yeah its a strange one isn't it,if it really is the case as he is suggesting then it has to be something to do with the mains supply that is stopping the UPS from working.
