Okay so I clocked my AMD Phenom II X4 955 to 3.6 Ghz in the BIOS using the standard voltage (1.40) and got it stable on the stresstest. However it bsod on me when I raise it to 3.8 or more. What voltage should I use to get it to work at higher clocks? I'm thinking I should clock it to 3.8 or even 4.0 Ghz.

Anyone knows how much voltage I should give the system to make it work at those speeds? I'm a bit scared that I might fry the cpu so any suggestions are greatly appreciated

What are you running for a cooler, and what motherboard do you have? I had a Phenom II 940 oc'ed to 3.5ghz(500mhz OC) without even trying, so I'd be thinking that a 600mhz OC for the 965 should be easy peasy.

I got the GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 and I'm using corsair h60 water cooler.

Are you just changing the multiplier from 16 to 19? Try changing it to 18.5 and see if that is stable before you adjust voltages.

You can also bump the FSB a mhz at a time for some gain as well. With an 18 multiplier, a 6mhz jump will add over a 100mhz to your speed, so even a little jump will boost performance.

I have the same chip (revision RB-C3) and am new to OC'ing. My system is stable using OCCT at 4.0 GHz, 1.47 volts. In total newbish fashion I ran the Auto-Tune in the AMD CCC. I got a BSOD at 4.3 GHz. My max temp recorded is 45C. I have a Corsair water cooler--whatever model is sold at Best Buy in the US.

RAM: 12 GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10666. (2 x 2GB RipJaw, 2 x 4GB PNY)

MOBO: BioStar A770E3

Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit.

And...I run only StarCraft II.

I hope my specs give you some insight into your own system. Right now I'm concerned that my voltage is running high. Newb question: If my temp is well under TFail than, is my voltage OK? Thanks in advance.

Dial down the voltage, run prime 95 to stress test it. If you don't get a bsod, dial it down again. Keep doing this and you can find the minimum voltage that that overclock needs.
