CPU Core speed dropping FPS in BF4 and FC3

Every 5 minutes or so my CPU will drop down its speed on modern games like BF4 and Far cry 3. Any idea why? It's fine on most games, just when its under heavy load it seems to randomly drop causing a bad FPS drop.

Could this be a bios setting to save power?

I haven't seen the problems occur since I changed settings in bios. I think im ok

I guess im not ok. After playing crysis 3 for a while my fps drops again for about a minute then goes back up, reoccurring every 5-10min untill I close the game. Could this be a temp issue? How should I go about checking?
