i plan on buying either a i5 3570k or a 4670k(depending on which is cheaper top end) i would like to clock up to 4.5 at best but im not sure what im looking for in a MOBO.

if you are planning on using a SSD in your build, I believe microcenter has a bundle discount when you buy a cpu or mobo ($10 off SSD). Also, dpending on the store, they sometimes have Clearance items at a greatly reduced price. I got my Antec SG850 PSU for $80 or $90 (I forget) but it was retailing for ~ $240 at the time. Depending on what you are after and what they have, it may well be worth the drive. And you can't beat microcenter's cpu/mobo combo prices (unless the state where they are located has rediculous sales tax).

For overclocking the i5 3570k you will want a Z77 motherboard. If you go the i5 4670k route, then you will want a Z87 motherboard. Depending upon the amount of various ports/connections and features you desire, you can usually (at least here in the States) get a good motherboard for between $100-$150. Some of the more exotic motherboards can cost upwards of $200, but unless you are after specific abilities/features, the mid-range motherboards will overclock just as well as the high-end ones. (just don't forget you will need a good aftermarket cooler for your CPU, the stock one can't handle overclocking temps). I assume you will be overclocking since you are looking at "k" series Intel CPUs.

as far as the usb 3.0 and SATA slots go, im really not too picky. at minimal two 6 SATA is preferred anything else isn't something im worried about. its going to be a budget gaming rig. and i most certainly plan on water cooling the cpu.

if you are on a budget, I'd suggest going with an AsRock motherboard. Great quality for a reasonable price and they used to be a part of Asus till they spun off and became a seperate entity. Look at the Extreme3 or Extreme4 in either Z77 or Z87 (depending on which CPU you decide upon).

i actualy found a microcenter deal for the 4670k at 179.99 and a extreme4 at like 100-something with a $20 discount..trying to justify driving 3 hours to get it though....the gas alone almost makes that deal not worth it :(

For Clearance items that the Micro Center store nearest you has, simply go to microcenter.com and look at the top center and change the store/location to where you will be going, once it loads that stores homepage, click on the Clearance tab and look thru what they have to offer. Also, if you have a credit card you can reserve whatever items you want to pick-up. You will then recieve a confirmation e-mail that you print out & take with you and your parts will be waiting for you at the pick-up counter when you arrive (You only need the credit card to make the reservation, you can pay for the items however you want once you get there). I believe they will hold parts for 48-72 hrs. This is extremely convenient whenever they only have a limited quantity on-hand and especially since you will be driving such a distance. Be a bummer to get there only to find out they have sold out of what you were after.

Which store are you going to? (I'm near the St. Louis MO store) Let me know if you ned any additional help or have further questions.
