hey guys i have Toshiba C850 - B626 laptop which is DOS free (no pre - installed Windows OS). I installed Windows 8 pro x64 on it because in the paper manual it says "Toshiba Recommends Windows 8". Anyways the boot mode is Legacy and i would like to know if it support UEFI Mode and how to do that. "When i tried to install the latest bios update it says "flash precess will be teminated current platform has a secure boot feature ...... contact you manufacturer...". So i was wondering how could i know my pc supports or is compatible with UEFI mode and if so how do i change it from Legacy to UEFI mode?

Since Secure Boot is only supported by UEFI and not by the old BIOS, I would say your system definitely supports UEFI booting. Go into the UEFI console and find the Secure Boot feature and turn it off. Flash the UEFI firmware and then turn Secure Boot back on once the flash is complete (if the flash operation itself doesn't do that for you).

And FYI - If you ever need to reinstall Windows 8, turn the CSM (Compatibility Support Module - the part that enables Legacy Boot mode) back on until you get Windows 8 installed, as it can cause problems booting the Windows 8 install media (at least it has in my experience). Once Windows 8 is back on the machine, you can go ahead and switch the CSM off and use the UEFI boot mode.

yeah it does support UEFI Firmware. See the problem is i am currently running with Legacy Mode and there is no such thing called secure boot when i enter my bios setup. so do i really need to find a way to make the Legacy mode to UEFI Mode. Since i am running on Legacy mode there is no UEFI console. I will check out Compatibility Support Module. and relply you soon. Thanks for your reply it really helps.
