So, 1.5ghz. I'm being offered a laptop with a dedicated NVIDIA 710M card and this CPU, with about 4GB of RAM. As a gift, too, so I shouldn't look at this horse in the mouth too much.

What I'm wondering is: would I be able to run Skyrim with this setup? It's the highest-end game I'd like to play, even if it's on the lowest graphical settings.

The minimum reqs specify a 2.0ghz dual core CPU, so I should not be able to run it, but I'm wondering if the magic Sandy Bridge thingamajigs would do the thing?

Dunno, the reason I'm actually asking is because the seller seems to think that it would run (of course), and this game-debate page says it should run. This gave me hope, though I trust you more than them, so I came to ask you.

Solution
I think it will play:)
You might get occasional stutters or low fps but as long as you don't start modding it you should have a good experience.
It's a good game too i played it for a LONG time:)

Really?! That's awesome, thanks! I don't mind low FPS as long as I can perform well enough in Skyrim's mating dance---er, combat system. The only mod I'd like to throw on it would be the no-spiders one, though unless those are some seriously HD bears, I'd think it wouldn't lag it too badly.

Would it be pushing it if I also really fervently wished for it to run Dark Souls, Civ V, Mass Effect(s), Dragon Age(s), Mount & Blade, Saints Row 2 and a reasonable FPS'd Minecraft? I wish I knew how to check on my own, but the whole "newfangled technology thing that manages to be good despite having a miserable clock speed" bit really throws me off.
