Our laptop suddenly won't connect to the internet. We're receiving a "Limited Access" message and when troubleshooting, it cannot find the problem.

I've restarted the router and laptop, but nothing has changed. The Wi-Fi does work on our phones and Playstation though. Anyone have an idea on what it could be?

What does it say on Wireless LAN Adapter Wifi?

That's where your IP address is.

The router's and the one that you are connected to.

You could try connecting the laptop directly with the ethernet cable and see if that works.

If it doesn't even then, one can suspect it's a network card problem.

If it does, then we can assume, that it's either wifi drivers or wifi settings themselves.

Have you tried that?

Network card problem.

Or an IP address conflict.

Unfortunately this is where my expertise is limited.

Hang around for someone to help you out.

What you could try is...

Open device manager, check your network adapters, and try to download and install drivers for your network card manually.

Maybe lack of drivers is causing to show limited connectivity.

Ah...

Btw which windows are you using ? windows 7 ?

Anyways you can try this as a final resort at the command prompt

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

After typing those two commands restart your laptop

Try again to connect.

look brother idk that if it'll work for you but I have the same problem so I just goto the network and sharing centre => Change adapter Settings => then I disabled the other adapters say local area connection and other was wireless network connection (Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport...) and let my wireless connection (Atheros xxxxxx.....) enabled which was by default now its working just fine...
My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and network adapter name is atheros .... whatever and secondly i did not update the drivers

Just had this problem and tried every restart, reboot, reset and release all to no avail!

I then tried uninstalling my AV (the latest avast free) and finally this worked for me.

I have seen that this is an issue with other AV's so try uninstalling and see if you can connect. You know then that it is the AV.

I've tried that also and it's saying failed as no adaptor is in the state permissible for this operation?

Ok a couple simple questions
Is it just this laptop do you have other wireless devices?
Whats the Device your wirelessly connecting to? model number of the modem/router
Are other devices having this issue?

Have you found a solution? My laptop just randomly while watching Foxtel play done the same thing. It won't even connect to my iPhone hotspot without being limited. So it has to be a computer problem but I can't replace files without the internet so I'm getting nowhere

I have limited computer knowledge, no pro here but can find my way around stuff apparently. Lenovo laptop with windows 8. I uninstalled AVG and this fixed my prob with havi ng limited connection at home and friend's homes. The other day I accepted a free trial of extra AVG protection and it seems to have been the trouble. Maybe the settings were just too high but hey this works for now. Hope it can help others. I will now reinstall regular old free AVG as it worked like a charm for me prior to a couple days ago. Have a little think people at what you have changed on your pc recently.... and best wishes!!

I know this thread is old but I have the same issue. I know you said you restarted the router but in my case I have to unplug the actual ISP modem (Time Warner in my case) then the router for at least five seconds. Then I plug the modem in then router. Once it boots I will have internet again for however long it may be. I have to do this once or twice a day. I have found out other people are stating that buying a better router fixes this issue which I do believe because I have noticed a lot of routers are only rated to handle so many devices simultaneously. Hope this answer helps someone.

I found out years ago that certain A.V. products cause connectivity issues. Drove me nuts when it first happened but I noticed it the A.V. also came with it's own firewall which was the issue. Best advice I can give it to stay away from A.V. that comes with a firewall or at least disable the firewall and just stick with basic Windows firewall :)
