Hey guys, I was just wondering if getting a cheap, designated graphics card would allow me to play league on max settings at least a playable 30-40 fps. Right now, I get 15-25 fps on lowest.
Intel(R) core(tm)2 quad cpu q6600 @2.40 Ghz, (4 cores)
6 gigs of ram
LTD41P041G (I think thats my mother board)
Integrated Graphics Intel R G33/G31 express chipset Family

I was looking somewhere along the lines of this http://www.frys.com/product/7698577#detailed
But someone with more experience can maybe confirm?

Problem is if you upgrade to a addon card, you also have to shop for the right power supply. Off the shelf old systems were as low as 250W of power, which is less then HALF what a GPU needs normally. So also you will need to include the price of a PSu ($99 for a 600w from PickParts for example).

Right now it seems as if the 7750 is the best option. But would I really get away with a 300 watt psu from 2007? Are there any requirements (such as a PCI express slot, no idea what that is )

Actually according to here should be a 400W, 500W for CrossFire, so I would side with a 500W and call it even.
http://graphics-cards-review.toptenreviews.com/amd-radeon-hd-6670-details.html

As for the 7750 AMD recommends the same things:
http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7750/Pages/radeon-7750.aspx#3

Personally my rule of thumb has been 500W minimum, 600W safe, 700W+ if your serious to extreme (Dual R9s for example).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130869 They recommend a 350 Watt, but as long as your 12vdc is capable of 20 amps you should be ok.

I have 2 Dell Dimension 9200 both running Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 2.93GHz/8M/1066MHz Socket LGA775 Processor SLACP, 8gb ddr2 800 ram one has a Zotac gt 640 and the other has a Zotac gtx 760 (the gtx 760 needed a PS upgrade), 2 160gb HD in raid 0. I have purchased some ddr2 1066 ram in the hopes that it will work. as of 12-22-13 I have the latest bios installed. These machine run very well and I have less than $500 invested total. They are circa 2006/7 also :)

My system (Core 2 duo, radeon 6670) can barely hit 150 watts under absolute maximum load.

I have a CX430 but it is overkill. 500w is insane for an old/low end system
600w is enough for a top end GPU

Here is a image of PCI-E x 16 slot :

Measured power consumption R 7750

1.System in IDLE = 155W
2.System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 188W
3.Difference (GPU load) = 33W
4.Add average IDLE wattage ~10W
5.Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 43 Watts

So a 300W PSU can handle the GPU pretty well. Just make sure your MB has a PCI-E slot and not a AGP slot. The card wont fit in AGP slot.

Here is a image of AGP slot, and don't get confused by PCI and PCI-E slot, they are different.

if you want to get to the meat of it ... the place to look is at the 12vdc rail of your PS. if it has the required amperage to satisfy the needs of the video card you should be good.. I have an older Antec 430w PS that can handle 26amp draw. I have used it to push car stereo amps lol :)
