Hi all,

this is my 1st post in this forum. First of all, sorry for my English, it´s not my native language. If this post is not in the correct section, please, feel free to move it where it belongs, and if I´m breaking any “rules”, please inform me and I will modify my post :)

Sorry to "introduce" my self with a "problem", but I really need some "pro" help :-S

Well, my issue is the following: I have MB Asrock P67 Pro3 with a I5 2500k running at stock speed 3.3Ghz and a new Noctua nh-d14 CPU cooler.

After purchasing this Cpu cooler (have issues with the stock fan, temp was very high), I started gathering information about OC (very usual to see this CPU running at 4.5ghz, etc...) and the first thing recommended almost on all sites was to update the BIOS to the lastest available:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/P67%20Pro3/?cat=Download&os=BIOS

So, the 1st issue after upgrading my BIOS to 3.30, is that the MB only detects now DIMM´s located in A1 and B1 slots (in BIOS and OS).

Aida64 detects the DIMM´s:

But as you can see, “memory system” is still 8GB...

Dimm´s models are:

G Skill F3-10666CL7-4GBXH (2 of them)

and

G Skill F3-10666CL7-2GBXH (2 of them)

= 12GB DD3 running at 1333 (that was before the BIOS update).

(I´ve already tried to swapp them and all DIMM´s are working, banks are also working as I´ve was able to boot the system with dimm´s located in every slot).

I´m guessing there is a memory speed frequency issue...on the BIOS all values are on “default” for CPU and memory.

The thing is that before updating BIOS, I´ve tested the default MB Overclocking settings. I can set them automatically to run at 4.0ghz, or higher. After booting the OS wih this configuration, all RAM was there and in the Asrock Application (Extreme Tuner), I was able to see the CPU ratio at 40 and in CPU-z running at 4000mhz...cool, it seems to work.

But my 2nd issue comes here, after upgrading the BIOS, even using the MB defaults settings to set to default speed (3.3mhz), when the OS is booted, the ratio keeps at 16 and CPU-z shows the following:

I´ve read about Intel CPU´s saving energy, etc...but even while running heavy load applications or games, the CPU does not go higher than 2896mhz..it stays almost all the time at 1.600 mhz (ok, saving power...) but even while running a game, it dosen´t go further that 2896 mhz....and the game does not run "smooth":

I´ve run prime95 for a very short time (1hour) and nothing happened, all tests peformed passed correctly...I have to add that I´m a "newbie" whit these kind of appz.

CPU-Z shows also 12GB and is able to read and see the DIMM´s located in A2 and B2 (in the BIOS we can read "none" on those slots).

Searching on the net, I only was able to found a link to a forum (have to search again for the link, I have it on my laptop) where a guy faced a similar issue...but it was with an previous BIOS update (mine is now 3.30 rev.B2) and that "bug" was supposed to be solved by Asrock (Sandybridge and Asrock MB bug related).

I´ve also sent an email with all the MB details to Asrock, I will check if they answer me something this week.

Does anyone has any idea about what could be happening? Can anyone help me to try to understand this mhz issue and ram issue? Someone with same board and CPU with a good OC to recommend me? It will be great...

Well, thanks a lot for reading and I will be very greatfull if some could help me to "troubleshoot" this. If more screenshots (BIOS, Asrock utility, CPU-z, etc..) are needed, I will upload them.

Thanks a lot for your time and help!

Cheers!

Hi again,

just to inform, in case anyone is facing or faced the same issue, that Asrock's support answered me (very fast) and they sent me a new BIOS to replace the defective one (there is a bug with Sandy Bridge and last BIOS available for download from Asrock web site).

"Voila!" You can close this thread :)
