I suspect your graphics card is down-clocking due to heat.

Run GPU Z while you play a game and the check the highest temperature you reached.

You can use afterburner to set a custom fan profile to try and prevent the card from reaching temps that cause it to dial back. Afterburner can also change the temp at which the down-clocking takes place.

70c is normal for a graphics card and shouldn't be lowering your fps.

I mean I have a 660, and it hits 70-80 playing graphic intensive games, but I have no problems. I can turn the fan up so it hovers around 60 but then it sounds like a plane taking off

my gtx 760 has no FPS drops @ 80. Might wanna check something else because i really do not think its your GPU card. unless it handles high temps real bad. Did you overclock it by any chance?

These cards have a few different "triggers" that will cause it to downclock. They will back off to avoid going over temp as well as their tdp. They dont wait until the get to 80c they start backing cown before that toensure they stay under their preset limits. Those limits can be increased. My 780 automatically downclocked well before 80c...that was before iincreased the temp limit to 85 and the power to 106%. I also use a fan profile that keeps the card around 70c. The card never gats anywhere any of its limts so it never downclocks under load.
