Set up Intel i7-3770K Quad Core Processor @ 3.4GHz

Should I go with the P8Z77-V LX or the B85M-E/CSM. Are there any big differences

I use the PC for light gaming watching HD movies and to run my SMB.

Solution
With 3770k it is good to go with Z-77 mobo. This you can OC with good cpu cooler.
But if you still looking cpu and if you do not OC then look Intel xeon 1230V2 cpu.
This is good pair with B75 or H77 mobo.

With B85 you need to use LGA 1150 cpu like 4670k, 4770(k) Or xeon 1230V3

With Xeons you need GPU because the do not have iGPU.
But they do have HT + 8 Treads. So they are like i7 for price i5. They are as fast as the 3770 or 4770.
Just bit slower clock speed. But this you will not notice when you use PC. Only way notice diffrence is run benchmarks. And then again diffrence is so small.

Solution
3770k works just fine with any LGA 1155 mobo. And there is no performance boost if you look B or H / Z mobo performance. Only thing is OC Z-77 enable s the OC. Other than that there is no benefit what so ever.

Look LGA 1150 score. No there is no "need" for Z-77.
Just like there is no need for Z-87 if you look LGA 1150 score.

The 3770k is an unlocked processor. That means it can be overclocked. You need a Z77 motherboard to take advantage of overclocking. Buying an unlocked processor and NOT pairing with a Z77 motherboard is a waste of money. If you don't intend to overclock, don't pay extra for an unlocked processor.

Thanks guys for all the input I really am not on the same level of understanding you are all on. The overclocking I 'am assuming will make the PC faster does it make a real difference that one can notice if not gaming a lot.

And buying Z mobo and not buy a good cpu cooler is is a waste of money.
So in end you be fine with non k cpu and cheap mobo. If OP do not need more sata ports or SLI or CF in future.

If you use just one video card and two HDD and no OC then non k or exon is best buy. Best is that is really not slower than k cpu. Because it is i7 :D so that is really smart buy.

For example.

Xeon is i7 and 4670k is i5 70 $ is lots of money. And it do give much performance boost. That is really marginal boost. If you look FPS.

Then if you go with i7 4770k it gets really expensive.

So 330 $ vs 500$ !
with 170 $ you can buy desent video card!

This is just 30$ more than 4770k mobo + cpu. What is good buy if you look price vs performance?
And sure if you ut some more money to video card it is really going to be fast gaming build.
