I have a custom built system (put together myself) that I'm considering selling, so I can switch over to a laptop. I put the system together in 2010, but have been actively updating the hardware as needed (replacing bad parts and getting newer/better components). I think some of it is still in warranty. The system cost me about $4000 in total, and I'm hoping to get anywhere between $2500-2900 for it. I'm not sure if this is just too much for an older system - I consider it a fair price due to the fact that I've continuously maintained/updated the system. What would an honest appraisal for it be? Here are the specs:

Main Specs:
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (NOT Bulldozer)
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair Formula IV AM3 890FX

Sound Card: HT Omega Claro Halo HT w/ a built-in HI-FI Headphone Amplifier
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 1600 (Kingston HyperX 4 x 4 GB)
Primary Hard Drive: OCZ Vertex 4 512 GB SSD
Secondary Hard Drive: 1 TB Western Digital Black
Third Hard Drive: 1 TB Western Digital Black
Power Supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold - 800W Power Supply

Other Items

Solution
I think you're being overly optimistic expecting over a thousand, as for that price, you could build a brand new system which would easily outperform your computer. Granted, there are a lot of extras, but not everybody needs or wants those.

That's what I figured. I'm perfectly happy with my setup as it fits all my needs with the exception that it's not portable. Thank you guys/gals for your clarification.

Yeah, I've got a pair of Sapphire Vapor-X 5870's that cost me $450 each a couple years back, I can't get any bites at $150 each. Folks want 'em for like $75 to $90 each........

New stuff is faster at those same price points. I replaced the two (2) 5870's with a single Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X for $300 (before the recent price spike). It flat out kills the Crossfire pair of 5870's that had cost me $900.....

Sell off the MB, CPU, and GPU for a few bucks. Then build your new system using the remaining parts......

well its not just the fact that newer hardware is more powerful at a fraction of the price originally paid... but also that when you are buying used its a huge gamble. you never know when the part is going to fail which means you need to get a really good deal to even consider it.
