I used to be able to play it normally with good frames but the recent updates are making me lag a lot. Just being at the main menu lags a ton. What is my best options for an upgrade to play minecraft? Right now I have an athlon ii x2 2.8ghz CPU, some stupid onboard crappy GPU, a 220w PSU, and 3gb of RAM. I have a $100-200 budget.

I looked up the specs for that machine. It will take up to 8gb of ddr3. I recommend adding more. Although, to utilize more than 4gb you will need to have a 64-bit operating system installed. I really think upgrading the memory is probably your only option with that machine. When you have only 3gb, even adding one more gb will make at least a bit of a difference.

That's not going to do much. I am already planning on getting a graphics card (low profile). RAM is just going to allow me to run more programs at once. Not make minecraft run faster. I would either need a better processor or more ram. And I do have 64-bit windows 7. It came with it.
