Building a new system for my brother and I'm stuck. Everything boots up and looks great, but I can't get windows 7 installed. I get errors when "Expanding Windows Files" and I'm not allowed to format or create new drive partitions because its a "GPT File System" or something like that. I tried two different versions of windows 7, including both 64 and 32 bit systems, but it was the same.

I'm wondering if I'd be more successful installing windows on the hard drive from another computer. The hard drive I'm TRYING to use is a Samsung Evo SSD. What if I just plugged that in by USB to a functional laptop, then tried to install windows on that, before then installing it back in my desktop. Would that be a good plan?

I was installing from CDs. Would it be possible to put Windows on a USB as a work-around?

The SSD is new, and the motherboard is an Asus M5A97 LE 2.0

I'm not sure how to update the BIOS to the latest version, though I will look into it.

Did you make these CDs from an ISO or are they from Microsoft? If they are the former, then both versions you have could be corrupted. Try reformatting the drive on another PC, then install the OS. If all else fails, you can use the Windows7 USB/DVD Tool from Microsoft.

No, these are legit CD Windows copies from Microsoft, one being a 64 bit version I bought at a Best Buy and another OEM Dell 32 bit version I merely tried as a last resort.

I already tried reformatting by hooking up the drive to my brothers laptop, but that did nothing.

I'll look into the USB tool now.
