I have been trying to install a new hard drive (500Gb) to replace my original one (40Gb) and am struggling. I have a Dell Optiplex 755 SFF and therefore only have space for one drive, and only have one power cable also. Therefore, I bought a power Y-splitter cable in order to power both drives whilst I cloned 40Gb drive onto my 500Gb drive, and then switch SaTA cables to make the 500Gb one the c:/ drive, and voila, it should have worked.
However, when I used the y-splitter cable to run both drives, plugging the SATA1 cable into my drive, the 40Gb drive (connected to sATA0) wouldn't boot up, with the pc saying it couldn't find drive 1. I configured the bIos so that the 40Gb was first to boot, and still no joy.

Any ideas why simply having the new 500Gb in the chain stopped my machine booting up........??
