Can someone assure me this is a good monitor or point me in the direction of a better one?

I'm looking for a great desktop monitor around 24", mostly for gaming and photo-editing. I've narrowed my search down to one model, the BenQ RL2455HM . I really thought this was a great decision until I came across this comment:

I'm confused as to why this monitor is so expensive, even on sale. It's only 60hz, the dynamic contrast ratio is subpar, it isn't even IPS, and it's not like it has above 1920x1080 res. Why is it so special?
I'm paying $240 (w/ shipping, handling, taxes) and won't settle for anything more. In fact, I took a step out of my budget comfort zone when choosing this monitor; I was hoping for something around $199.

This HP 27" is on sale for $199 tomorrow, is it a better alternative?

Thanks for the read, cheers!

Yes 27" is very big for 1080p. You'll have to look at it yourself to judge the difference. If you sit back far enough (normally you would) it should still look fine.

Otherwise get a 23-24" monitor which you can find for less than $200.

The colors will be a lot better, no doubt. I would've been sold if it weren't for this: don't you think its silly to spread out a 1080p resolution over 27"? A monitor that big is really asking for 1440p.
