Hello Tom's Hardware:

First, I would like to state that I am unsure as to where exactly I should place this thread, so I decided in the end to leave it under 'networking'. It seemed to fit the topic the best. Moving onto the gist of the thread, I am looking to build a server computer. My knowledge over the years has consisted of nothing but Gaming computers and Enthusiast builds, but never have I wandered into building a server. The only thing that I know I will have to do is buy a server processor and a compatible motherboard, and I know very little information as to what to look for. I know that the Intel Xeon is considered the best processor in the market for servers, but it's a bit too pricey for a first-time server build.

All I'm asking is for you to put together a list of parts that I would need to build a solid server, preferably under the $700 (USD) mark.

I appreciate any help you could give me.

Chris

First, thank you for the quick reply. Didn't exactly expect a reply at 4 AM, but I do appreciate it.

I would be using this to keep Bittorrent Sync running 24/7 as well as a server for a game, and a website running as often as I can let it. I realize that this will probably shatter the $750 mark, but the closer you can get to $750 whilst being able to do many of the things the better.
