Hey guys, I plan to build my first computer. I have been researching for hours on the parts I want to get. I shall continue on with my current specs, and then after I list those I will list the parts I want to use for my next build.

Current computer specs:
CPU: Intel core i3 530
GPU: EVGA Gefore GTX 560 ti
Motherboard: Gigabyte H55M-S2H
Memory: 6 GB of DDR3
PSU: Rocketfish 500W
HDD: 1 TB
Also have a standard optical drive and all the other things that come with a prebuilt computer (it is a CyberpowerPC)

What I plan to include in my new build:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 (I got it for $135 on Newegg on Black Friday :))
Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-H87-D3H LGA 1150
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue 1 TB 7200 RPM
PSU: I haven't really decided on the PSU yet, I was thinking of getting a Corsair 600 - 700W power supply, suggestions would be nice! :)
Case: I have also been unable to decide on a case, suggestions are welcome. I may refer to the link I posted in the motherboard section below for a case for last resort if necessary.
OS: Windows 8.1

There you go! Now I will give some reasoning behind the parts I chose.
I chose the CPU I chose after reading that the FX 8350 uses more than twice the amount of power consumption that the 4670 uses and provides less significantly overall performance in single-threaded applications. The link to where I found this can be located at
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4670-vs-AMD-FX-8350
I am the type of guy who is very....what is the word....efficient? I know that over time (and I plan to have this processor for awhile) the costs of the extra power consumption of the FX 8350 will add up very much.

I do not want to overclock, so I assume the stock fan for the CPU is fine.

I chose this motherboard after visiting this site: http://techreport.com/review/25743/tr-christmas-2013-system-guide/2
and seeing the good reviews of the motherboard on newegg.

As I mentioned above, I got a really great deal on the graphics card and I plan to use it in my next build.

I am hoping to grab these parts when Newegg rolls out the After-Christmas sales!
I was also hoping that I could use the same RAM and optical drive from my current computer in order to save some $.

For anyone of those wondering, here is the order of applications from most-time-consuming to least-time-consuming in my everyday life.
1. Minecraft
2. Youtube
3. League of Legends
4. Battlefield 4 along with many other Steam games I have

Thank you for reading this wall of text! Hopefully you guys can help me out here in deciding what I should get.

Your cpu,gpu and mobo are great.
Yes,you can use the optical drive from your existing PC.As for your ram,how many sticks of ram does your current pc have?I'm thinking 3x2gb sticks, but i could be wrong. These days,8gb is required for gaming rigs.
HDD,you should be able to use from your current pc as well

You should be looking at a PSU in the 500-600W range.Plenty of power for your needs.corsair, antec, seasonic and xfx are recommended psu manufacturers

The corsair cases are great for the money.Have you looked at the carbide 300r?

And oh,you're right about the 8350 consuming more power. But it's not alot more as many people would have you believe.

Hey navask01,
Thank you for the kind response! I will continue to answer your questions.

I have 1 stick of 4 GB and 1 stick of 2 GB ( yeah it's not the normal setup, but it suits my needs) However, I may upgrade the 2 Gb stick to a 4 GB stick in the future.

I can reuse my HDD? That's awesome! I have my Windows 7 Home Premium files on the HDD so I assumed it would conflict with the new Windows 8 files.

That is a pretty cool case! However, I have also been looking at the NZXT Source 210 and all the amazing reviews on it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146076e
So many cases to choose from :) I don't want to spend too much money on the case tho.

Yeah I think I'll go with a Corsair CX600.

Thanks for the feedback so far!

No problem.My pleasure.
If you can, upgrade that 2gb to 4gb from the get-go.
You can use your HDD.In fact, you should be able to install 8 over the 7 and keep your personal files intact. The updater software will guide you on that.

The source 210 is great for the money but hey, looks are personal.I like the non-windowed 300r better.Or if the window did not have perforations,i'd get that in a heartbeat.

The CX line is not well regarded.Try XFX Pro or Seasonic, depending on your budget

You want your new system to run in "dual-channel mode" for best speed. So, you really need to have your RAM in matched pairs. Get a second 4Gb stick that matches the one you have in speed & timings....

I would leave the old system in a workable state. Keep it for a spare "web surfer" or sell it to a friend for a few bucks rather than strip if of a few parts n junk it. So, I would leave the 2Gb stick in your old system. I would also NOT reuse the old 1Tb drive, they usually only last 2 to 4 years and I wouldn't recommend building a new system on an old drive for that reason.

Get a new WD Blue or Black for about $60 or $70.... (if you can't afford an SSD drive in your budget as a boot drive...)

Corsair PSU are really nice, around $50 will get a CX600 watt. Go for the "M" (modular) version so you can use Only the cables you need. Makes for a much neater build.

Okay, I guess a new WD Hard drive for 60 bucks is a good deal.
I also heard G. Skill Rip Jaws X RAM was good and made for gaming purposes.
As awesome as SSDs sound, I will not be able to get one
It seems like Newegg has rolled out their Christmas Eve through Christmas sales, should I wait until the after-Christmas sales or go ahead and pick up my parts now? I see that the i5 4670 is only $205 now!
There is a combo on the non-modular version of the CX600 for 10 bucks off, should I still get the modular?

Modular vs non-modular is just for making the interior of the case neater. Less cable clutter, no performance gain...

G. Skill RAM is a good choice and usually has good prices. Look at Crucial & Corsair and just get the lowest price ones...

We'll I'm impatient on computers so I usually pull the trigger on things as soon as I have enough cash... (rather than wait till each piece hits a good price...)

Getting it now or later is all up to you,my man.I don't think prices are going to change much beyond this point.

The CX series of PSU is great for basic systems(grandparent's PC and the such). You are building a rig for performance.Look at a higher range from corsair or XFX,seasonic PSUs.

Happy holidays,mate!

Hmm, so which power supply would you recommend for my build?
