ok so I have a pc and the router is downstairs from we're I am. My pc has to have a wifi antenna (USB) plugged in at all times if I unplug it the connection goes. And even when it's plugged in the connection is terribly slow. What should I do ? Should I buy an ethernet cable or a better wifi anntena?

If it is at all possible, I would want an ethernet cable running to the modem.
It is not very expensive really.
This assumes you have a way to route the cable in some reasonable fashion.
I have done this before in an apartment I lived in, and since drilling holes in the walls wasn't going to happen, I ran it along the ceiling at the top of the wall using masking tape. (So it wouldn't take the paint off when I removed it.)
*tip Get a longer cable than you think you need. Following corners and such to keep it neat uses up more feet of cable than you think it does.
