Used R9 270X and BF4 Question

I just bought a used R9 270X from Frys but I have yet to install it. Im here at work and I just thought maybe the guy bought it, did the BF4 promo thing, then returned it. Is that possible and if so will I not be able to get the promo. I haven't been able to find anything about this anywhere yet. Thanks.

If he did that, you're screwed. Once a key is activated, it is tied to an account.
