Will removing the GPU reactor from my MSI GTX 680 Lightning affect my performance at all?

I have to do this in order to make physical room for the soundblaster ZX sound card as it is obstructed by the GPU reactor.

What is the purpose and function of the GPU reactor?

I have two of them in SLI, can I remove just one of them and keep the other attached?

LavcoPriceTech did some tests and found that it made no difference. I have a 680 Power edition (same physical card) and I am fairly sure that I used it w/o the reactor and noticed no difference (though I haven't applied a heavy overclock).

In the end I left it on due to it not getting in the way and this way I always know where it is.

So I would say try it without and see what happens.
