I've just bought all the parts for my PC and was starting putting them together, the CPU does not fit the mobo! I've fallen at the first hurdle!

I had a look online and on the gigabyte website about compatibility but couldn't make heads nor tails of the information the site was giving me!

I'm hoping someone can tell me quite simply whether my CPU and MOBO are incompatible or whether I'm just being a spoon about connecting the two.

My CPU is an AMD FX-4130 black edition
My MOBO is a gigabyte F2A88X-D3H

Help :??:

Sorry pal... Your CPU socket and Motherboard socket don't match... If it hasn't been 30 days since you bought it and the motherboard is still in good condition, most vendors will give you a full refund...

Just assuming you used Newegg.com, do this-
What you need to know/do:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113291
Go to that link and find where it says socket either in the "Specifications" or just the title...

Ok, so you see that that CPU has an AM3+ Socket type. That means that the CPU will only fit in a Motherboard with an AM3+ socket on the board...

Go to your motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128656
It says the socket's name in the title, but you don't know that's the socket. Scroll down to "Specifications again and you'll see the spec "CPU Socket Type". Now you know that motherboard can only support CPU's with a FM2+ or an FM2 socket.

So, if you can, return the board, and look around for a motherboard with an AM3+ socket.

Hope this helped...

thanks guys, guessed as much from the physical incompatibility. i posted the parts build on a different site and nobody mentioned anything. heart-broken!

my motherboard was from a german site through amazon so i'd rather try and return the CPU, could either of you mention an upper-entry level cpu that is compatible with this motherboard? I'm looking to spend between £60 and £90.

thanks for the help regardless!

FM2 CPUs wont be as good as AM3 CPUs.
Another question. Do you have dedicated graphics card or do you plan to use integrated card? Because AM3 CPUs do not support integrated cards, while some FM2 CPUs do.
