Ok so i bought a SteelSeries Apex today and to change its colours you need SteelSeries Engine 2. As soon as it was installed and opened up my mouse stopped working and i was unable to move its cursor, however the light on my mouse was still on. I tried to reset my PC but sure enough it stopped working as soon as SS Engine opened up again, I was forced to remove SS Engine from my PC in order to get my mouse to work, i tried my old razer mouse and it worked, not sure if that helps.

Different Roccat mice need their own unique driver. There isn't one blanket driver for their product line. Remove completely the Roccat software then download and install the Steelseries device specific driver / software package and try again.

You might have sent your keyboard back by now but did you (or anyone else) ever found a solution?

I have the same problem: The Steelseries Engine 2 disables my Roccat Kone XTD mouse (My other mouse still works with Engine running). When I don't run Engine the Roccat mouse runs fine.

I have read many posts stating the same problem but no solution so far. Thanks!

There is no solution unfortunately. I've spoken at length with Roccat tech support and they repeatedly say that their stuff doesn't work on a machine with Steelseries engine installed.

Yep. I found out as much from Roccat and Steelseries tech support. Here are their responses.

ROCCAT:
"The "Steelseries Engine" that you have installed for your Steelseries product, can unfortunately lead to a crash of the ROCCAT driver software. In the past we have already tried to get in contact with Steelseries to find a solution for the problem that the ROCCAT drivers are being negatively influenced by the Steelseries Engine. Unfortunately we never received an answer. To use your ROCCAT product normally, unfortunately the Steelseries Engine has to be uninstalled or disabled."

STEELSERIES:
"• Please uninstall the SteelSeries Engine, then uninstall Roccat software.
• Next, Plug in Apex and then the Kone
• Finally, install the SteelSeries Engine
If this works, then the problem was not with the Engine and the Kone, it was a problem with Engine and Roccat software. Unfortunately, if that is true then we won't be able to resolve it, as it is a software incompatibility with a 3rd party software. I hope that's not the case though so we can get this resolved."

I had already unsuccessfully tried the Steelseries solution. I ended up returning both the keyboard and mouse. Hope this helps anyone thinking about combining these. I will say that both companies responded to my emails very quickly so from that end I can't complain.

I have now exactly same problem and been talking with Roccat for couple of days and they gave me also same answer.

I really liked Kone XTD but unfortunately I have to refund it for this reason :(

I am also using Roccat kone XTD and steelseries apex. I can confirm that absolutely no combination of installs/uninstalls, USB ports, drivers, software, or additional support works. The SteelSeries Engine simply bricks the Kone mouse.

The problem is, in order for macros to persist on the Apex keyboard, SSE must be open/running. I tried unsuccessfully to set up the keyboard the way I wanted, then uninstall SSE in the hopes that the Apex had onboard memory. This did not work, and as soon as SSE starts up, the Kone mouse freezes. Of course, in order to use the mouse the way I want and the keyboard the way I want, I need BOTH drivers to be working. I hoped that maybe I could program the Kone the way I wanted, then uninstall its driver (similar to what I tried with the Apex) and hope that the mouse had onboard memory. However, even when the Kone's driver is not installed/running, SSE causes the mouse to fail.

So all in all, it is impossible to use a Roccat Kone XTD and any SteelSeries product (that uses the Steel Series Engine) at the same time. I really wish I knew about this before I got them, but that's the breaks. I got the mouse for christmas and bout the SS keyboard with my own money, so I guess I'll return the mouse or give it to someone else. Really disappointing :( get your s*** together, SS and Roccat!

I'm actually kind of glad this happened now. I returned my keyboard/mouse and got a Corsair K95/M65 instead. I haven't received the mouse but the keyboard is amazing! It's $50 more but IMO it's worth it. It's built like a tank. No plastic here like the SS; all aluminum chassis. It's also mechanical cherry mx red (no click), white LED backlit only, on only one USB on board. Let's hope the mouse is as good.

P.S. I wasn't gonna reply but I did just because I wanted to type something :)

I found a way how my mouse Roccat Kone XTD works with my Steelseries siberia v2 frost blue headset. I get the same problem but for me the only way to make it work after the cursor freezes is to UNPLUG your mouse from USB and then plug it back in or try a different USB port. For me it works just fine the only problem is that I have to do this every time I restart my PC which isn't that bad. I just hope this problem will be solved with a better way.

If this doesn't work for you then I'm sorry but I can't help you. I was writing with a technician from Roccat and he told me that Steelseries has drivers as a package for mouse, headset and others. That is why when I installed my mouse with the headset the roccat driver crashed. All that Steelseries need to do is make drivers just for the parts not as a big package that makes problems .....

hi i got exactly the same problem and this is how i solved it: open task manager and search for the steelseries engine process an kill it. Both runs perfectly but i think that the headset preferences doesnt work.

I've tested the replacing the .dll, but it would only crash the steelseries engine. If the drivers for steelseries mice could be disabled seperately in the steelseries engine, I think the problem would be solved. So if anyone know how to do this I'll gladly test it.

Thanks for your reply. What I forgot to say, and what might have bitten you, is the fact that I only fixed the 32bit version of the dll yet.
If the dll completely fails for you I suspect you have a 64bit Windows.
Meanwhile I dug deeper into the issue and uploaded a new version of the fix that should have no drawbacks regarding headsets anymore. This time I put the file into a correctly named subfolder for download to make clear its 32bit.
The 64bit version is on its way, takes a bit longer because I have even less expertice on 64bit code.
