Keyboard shift problem

Certain combinations of shift + key do not work on ASUS netbook running Windows XP.
Top two key rows (123 + qwerty) work fine with right shift but not fully with left shift.
Third key row (asdf) and <>? works with left shift.
Fourth key row (zxcv) only works fully with caps lock.

Using separate usb KB allows use of left shift on usb KB to work correctly with all keys on original KB.
Also left shift on original KB allows use of all keys on the usb KB to work correctly.

Seems like a keyboard mapping problem. I have updated all drivers and uninstalled/reinstalled KB drivers several times, but with no success. I need help.
Thank you

Thanks. Easy to say, but it's on a netbook I want to keep. Since the keys all work on the netbook when using any shift key on a separate usb kb and all keys on the usb kb work with any shift key on the netbook, it seems to be software/firmware not hardware in the netbook. It's got me stumped!
