Should I get the GTX 780 or wait.

I am trying to decide if I should purchase a GTX 780 for my gaming pc. My pc currently has a gtx 590 installed. I want to upgrade because I want to switch from a HD monitor to a 4k monitor. I know that CES 2014 is less than two weeks away, so I don't know if I should wait and see if Nvidia announces the new Maxwell cards.

AMD cards tend to perform better as the resolutions get higher because of apparently more VRAM.

Having said that, for a 4k monitor, you would be hard pressed to find a single card, that can run all the games with great frame rates.

If you are going down the line to 4k resolution I would recomend pairing a couple r9 280x or gtx 770 in sli mode to get better results than a single Gtx 780.

If you are intent on a single card, which is not a good idea, as they won't be able to drive your 4k machine,a Gtx 780ti version is your best bet, and even that will fail at such high resolutions.
