So the 460 1gb will act as a 768mb?

Yes.
There is no point in SLIing two cards if you're getting only 768 MB of video ram.
You almost always need more than that if you're going to play latest games at high resolutions.

All the posters above are totally wrong, the 768MB card and 1GB card will not SLi.

Those two cards will not SLi, they are among the exceptions and it's due to the different Vram amounts. The memory controllers or ROP's are different, 24 Vs 32.

I understand that they will not SLI, but what about Crossfire cofiguration? Will that work? If it can, what kind of performace can you expect? The memory bus width is diiferent, 192 vs 256 bit.

Crossfire and SLI are the same, conceptually.
But Crossfire is for AMD cards only. It's called SLI with NVIDIA.
My above answer is wrong. The 460 has a couple of versions, and the 768MB and 1GB cards are different versions with different graphics chips, so they won't SLI.
