Hey all,

So I've been wanting to upgrade my graphics card for a while now. I have a few in mind, but I'm not sure how to tell if they're compatible with my motherboard. I currently have an Asus CM6850 board and a GT 530 card. I'm going to be upgrading my psu from 330w to 650w as well, so there will be no problems with insufficient power. So I ask, if you had around $400 to spend on a card that's compatible with the mobo above, what would you get?

Hello... you have a iH77 chipset on the MB, and a PCIe 3.0 ×16 slot in it... You can use any of the current Video cards with your Computer.

If you want video card advice, you need to also put in your CPU and case brand/model. For a slower CPU you don't need to get a higher than mid range card. If you have a fast i5 CPU (especially if you are overclocking it) or i7, nVidia GTX770 is good in the upper range. If you have an i3, you don't need to go over something like a R9 270, or maybe a GTX760 tops. Also keep in mind the case size vs card size.

Sandy Bridge i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz. I think I should be fine in that regard. My case on the other hand is a different problem. This was a pre-built PC, so it came with a standard Asus CM6850-07 case. I opened up the case a few hours ago for cleaning and there seems to be quite a bit of empty space. Do you think that the case would be sufficient for a gtx 770?

Hello... the length of the card will be your main concern... Various brands will have different lengths for the same GPU... get a ruler/tape measure out, and compare the Models lengths on their website's, for a confirmed fit.

I was looking at Zotac's Gtx 770. The dimensions are 10.5" x 4.38" x 1.38". It might be a little snug, but if my measurements are right then the card will fit in the case :)  It nearly doubles the size of my current GPU
