AMD Fx 8150 overheating under load

Hi there. I've been having problems with my 8150 overheating very quickly while under load. Originally, I was running a Kuhler 620 with one fan pulling in at the front of the case, and one pushing air out at the back. After experiencing some heat-related shutdowns, I figured that maybe either my thermal pasting job was bad or the airflow in my case was inadequate. I went gonzo on the machine, applying fresh thermal paste (the pea method) and installing two more exhaust fans and setting up a "push/pull" on the Kuhler's reservoir. I still experienced the more-than-occassional crash while gaming and noticed that the tubes on the Kuhler were very hot. So, finally, this morning, I decided to swap out the Kuhler for the old, stock fan. At idle, it sits between 19 and 30 degrees Celsius, which is about the same as with the Kuhler. I put it under stress with AMD overdrive's Prime95-like stability test, and temps quikcly shot up into the 80's and the PC shut down in under 5 minutes. I'm out of ideas. Each time I reapplied the thermal paste, I removed the old with a microfiber cloth and reapplied with the "pea" method, and used Artic Silver. Maybe I'm just really bad at applying it? I have a Thermaltake TR2 700W PSU. I've posted a screenshot of HWMonitor with this post. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, everybody. http://

mmmm... are you overclocking the cpu in any way?

and if the tubes in the kuhler are hot that means you have a pump/fan problem in the kuhler.

Clean the surfaces with rubbing alcohol and qtips... I know the arctic silver suggests a microfiber cloth... but in my experience this is the only way to get the surfaces propperly clean.

as to your thermal paste application... when you take the cooler off, does the paste cover 95% of the cpu heatspreader? does it run over the sides? if the first isn't happening then you're not using enough, if the 2nd is happening then you're using too much.

are you sure your cooler is making good contact? it should be locked down and feel like it's part of the board?

when you put the cooler on you're...

when you put the cooler on you're not "rocking" it or pulling it off to check the thermal paste and then putting it back on are you? cause that puts airbubbles in the paste which then will kill the thermal transfer and overheat your system.

Thanks a million for the tips. I cleaned the heck out the CPU and the heat sink on the Kuhler today and put it back together, making sure not to move the sink around too much (a real challenge with the weirdo mount on the Kuhler) and made sure it was on super tight. One or all of those things really made a difference! I haven't had a chance to run a full-on stress test yet, but I put it under load for 15 minutes today and my temps stayed under 50 degrees! yesterday, it would've been a smoldering pile of ash after about ten minutes. Thanks again!
