Help!

I am a newbie to all that is home networking, but regardless things were going well.

My set up is that I have a wireless router which is plugged in to two hard drives. One is just for storage (Maxtor 200GB) and the other is a new drive and media server (Lacie Network Space 2 1TB). I access both of these drives via my wireless network from my laptop, which is Windows 7 Pro.

I now wish to be able to access some of my files via a Playstation 2, and in order to do so I need to create a FAT32 partition on the media server, which is currently NTFS.

I decided to remove all the files from the media server before proceeding, as advised by nearly every site I looked on, and then set about the task of creating the partition.

I tried using Windows Disk Management, but it will only show the laptop hard drives (which are already partitioned, but not by me). Aha, I thought. Maybe it is because I am viewing them over a wireless network.

So I disconnected from the network and connected via the USB (type A) to USB (type B) cable supplied with the device. Nothing. So I tried the age old trick of re-booting both, allowing the media server to boot up fully before connecting the USB. Still nothing. Tried looking at 'Computer'. Nothing showing at all. Something is definitely happening at the media server end, as the light flashes several times after connection and disconnection, but nothing is happening on my computer - not even the 'Windows is installing a USB device' balloon/icon.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way in which to partition the drive via the network, where the drive shows as a network drive, or am I doing something wrong?

Please bear in mind that I am not particularly techie so keep it simple!

Thanks, Nina

Are you trying different USB ports on your computer, do you have anything else plugged into USB ports. Also do these external hard drive have decitated power supplies or are they powered over USB?
