For the last month, my computer would shut down at random times. When it shuts off, the main power button doesn't work. The only way I could turn it back on is if I turn the power supply switch to off for about a minute then turn it back on. After that, the main power button will work. Sometimes it works for three days, others for five seconds. I'm using speedfan to monitor the temps, and nothing is overheating. Is it the power supply or the motherboard? Any ideas?

Hello... try cleaning your Ram sticks with Rubbing alcohol and re-seating... check all your power and data connections to hardrives and CD/DVD drives... Any component that loses communication or power can cause Windows to shut down, Un-plug any DVD/CD/? drives to see if problem goes away... Do you have Automatic Updates turned on in any of your software? this can cause a auto re-boot, for the software to complete an install.

I have already cleaned and checked all cables and components. I currently have a Phenom II Quad-core, 4GB of DDR2 memory(high speed, can't remember which one), NVIDIA GeForce GT 630, and a 650 watt power supply. I do have automatic updates on, but I don't get any warning screens of it shutting down, and remember I have to hit the kill switch on the PSU for a minute before I can turn it back on.

Yeah, it's 95% of the time I'm using it. I have been making notes on what I'm doing when it shuts down, and I have noticed that it shuts down most of the time during semi-heavy loads, usually gaming.

Hello... Your Video card is Weak for Graphics and the Cooler on it could be weak too... You could be asking too much from it with your game or it is Overheating in your Case... What heavy loads/games are you having problems with? Have you tried a Temperature Monitoring APP? What screen resolution do you run? and what type of Connection are you using? analog/Digital?

The game I play alot is Wartune, and I don't make it full screen. I do use SpeedFan, and the video card doesn't seem to be overheating. I use the digital connection. Yesterday, I did open the tower up and took the sound card out. Since then, it seems to be running good.

Well it did it again today. When I turned my computer back on, it would get up to the Windows loading screen, then the screen would go black (the popup screen from the monitor stating it wasn't getting a signal), but the computer looked like it was still loading...i.e. the hard drive light was rattling. It did this for about 45 minutes before it would load properly. I tried getting into safe mode which would load ok, but the mouse and keyboard(usb driven) wouldn't work. I did a bootlog.txt, but I don't understand too much of it...all I can see is that some things weren't loading.
