I cannot zip a file. It gives me error message - "Access Denied. Unable to complete operation". What can I do?

Solution
It's not really safe to run a PC as the administrator all the time. It's better to setup two accounts: one standard user, and one administrator. You use the standard user all the time, and the administrator is only to install software.

But back on topic, really no idea why you get this message, did you try to send it somewhere else than the Desktop, in My Documents maybe?

I would suggest you use 7-zip or another software to handle compressed file. Windows can only handle .zip files and other software can handle all formats (.rar files too etc...).

What software are you using to compress the file? Personally I use 7-zip it's free and it works great.

Are you sure you have full access to the location you're trying to create the file? Maybe try to output it somewhere else like on your desktop?

I am using Windows 7. I right click, send to: compressed file. It tries to compress and then I get error message. I put the file on USB and was able to compress from USB but still cannot on desktop. I have full access as administrator.

Unfortunately UAC doesn't put guards everywhere. Removing admin rights is a step further. Not to sound paranoid but there's never been more malware than today. I also run Firefox with the NoScript add-on. Maybe I'm the paranoid type lol, but better safe than sorry.
