iomga external hard drive used for both macand pc??? HELP

so my iomea external hard drive was always used for my mac book which just recently died (I use the firewire connection)
so I went and bought an acer
and now when I plug my external in (using the mini to regular usb link) the light stays on solid but it beeps.. and doesn't show up in devices

If you have friend with mac's that might help you, they could copy your files to their system and then reformat the external to fat32 and move your files back. The Fat32 format will work on both systems, you just need to be aware that there is a 4gb file size limit with fat32.

There are also a handful of windows programs that will allow you to only read the mac formatted drive. With one of those you could copy to your new Acer, reformat the external, and then copy your files back yourself.
