What's a good over-ear headphone/headset not exceeding far from 150$?

As the title says, what is a good over-ear headphone/headset not exceeding far from 150$?
I will be using it for gaming and listening to music for the most part. Also, what are good traits to look for when picking out a pair of headphones?

And one more question. According to what I'm hearing, Headphones tend to have better audio quality that headsets. It this true? Will I be better off with a separate headphone and mic? Thanks in advance.

what traits to look for can vary from person to person however in general you want clear sound, even across the board with decent but not overpowering bass.

a headset is a pair of headphones with a microphone attached. generally 2.0 stereo headphones of the same price level will be superior to surround sound "gaming" headphones since higher quality drivers are used instead of smaller multiple drivers.

if sound quality is paramount you would be better off getting a high quality pair of headphones and a seperate mic yes.

my recommendation would be a pair of audiotechnica ath-m50s for $105 on ebay. probably the best sounding pair you can find under $250. you can then pair it up with a desktop mounted mic OR a clip on mic which mounts to the wire OR a modmic which attaches to the headphones with the remaining cash.

the m50s are built rather solid, great sounding with hard hitting but not overpowering bass and despite being studio headphones they dont require a seperate amplifier and work with phones, computers ,mp3 players, etcetera.

I don't know if you've heard of Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset. I think it's the best gaming headphones that you can get at around $104.99 in amazon. You can rely on its lag free performance and would actually allow you to up to 40 ft wireless range. I love its noise cancellation features and the programmable G-keys that has a one touch command over chat or voice morphing.
