I have a monitor with a VGA output but my video card only supports DVI-D, HDMI, and DisplayPort. This card is an XFX Radeon HD 6670, and I read the box and it clearly says it doesn't support DVI to VGA conversion via an adapter. I did some googling and found that HDMI is a digital display and VGA is analog and that using an adapter doesn't often work and one needs a full on converter. I wasn't able to find much information on using a VGA display with a DisplayPort video card via an adapter.

What's the best way I can hook up my VGA monitor to my new video card? Would an adapter for a VGA monitor to a displayport video card work?

You're right in that all of the outputs on your card are digital, and VGA is analog. Unless I'm mistaken, you can't convert VGA to any of those ports. If you had a DVI-I port you could buy an adapter, but DVI-D only takes digital. You'll have to use a different monitor.

Should work but some have said that passive adapters did not work and they had to get active adapter to connect to VGA. My best guess would be to just get a active adapter in the first place and not take the chance that it would not work. With a active adapter there should not be any problems.

DisplayPort is compatible with VGA (and DVI as well).. You need a DisplayPort to VGA Active Adapter

Displayport to VGA Active Adapters

DisplayPort

The VESA specification is royalty-free. VESA designed it to replace VGA, DVI, and FPD-Link. Backward compatibility to VGA and DVI by using active adapters, enables users to use DisplayPort fitted video sources without replacing existing display devices.

That's like saying every port is compatible with every port. You have to have a converter for analog to work on digital. A passive adapter won't work. There is no "some" and there is no guessing.
