Hello I have 3 hard disks 4TB WD Red. I was trying to get them all connected in Raid 5 for storage purposes only since I am using SSD for Windows 7. I have tried going to Bios and doing Raid 5, however, it could only provide a max of 1.6 TB for each hard disk and still could not get it to start up Windows (blue screen shows up)

Please advise how to utilize these 3 Hard disk in Raid 5 if possible or other solutions that might help.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.
Bios is updated to F8
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3L (rev. 1.0)
3 pieces of 4TB WD Red

I could be wrong but i think windows 7 home premium does not support RAID 5... for hardware supported RAID 5 i think you need enterprise or ultimate and for software RAID 5 (striped) you need a server version.

it does not appear that your motherboard supports drives larger than 2TB. You will need to purchase an aftermarket raid card or a new motherbd which does.

edit - perhaps the beta bios gigayte has posted on the support page will get the 4tb drive to work. I would at least download it and read the release notes.

There is lots of horror stories about MB raid...
Look at the RAID controller that I recommend, Regular PCIE hardware raid card is not cheap.
For less than $100.00. Get this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JPUZWU/

This wont get you 400~500MB/s but certainly up to 250MB/s on raid5 and you can move it to ANY Windows w/o drivers or software to deal with

Highly recommend
