Let me start by saying that I have never built a computer. The most I have ever done is change the memory. So I am a complete noob when it comes to this.

I have an iBuyPower PC that I would like to upgrade with a Samsung SSD and Windows 8.1. This is not going to be my primary gaming computer any more and is being moved to being my main computer for e-mail, surfing the web, and back-up gaming (like when I have a friend over). I plan to do a complete wipe of the current drive. This was my dedicated gaming machine and really only has games and music on it at the moment.

My current computer is in a NZXT Phantom case, a 1TB hard drive, and has a Gigabyte motherboard of some sort. I plan to keep the 1TB drive for data. Here is a link with all of the computer specs according to NewEgg- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227317

I am trying to figure out what I need to order at this point. My current list includes-
Samsung SSD- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3W1726/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Windows 8 upgrade- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AM9YXTS/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AFQ37VNNSNW79

Do I need to order any cables? Anything to mount the hard drive? What am I missing, or is it this simple?

Thanks in advance!

If you are going to wipe the HDD, you should probably get a complete windows 8 program, not an upgrade. My experience is that upgrades of windows are messy and do not always work right. Check to see if your current MB has windows 8 drivers or not. I would bet that you should have enough cables from your old comp system. If you get a new MB there will be even more cables with it.

I was under the impression that the software on the Windows 8 discs was identical other than you got a discount on the upgrade. In other words, I thought a clean installation using the Upgrade disc would be identical to using the full retail product. Is this incorrect?
