Hi. I'm building a new PC purely for heavy-duty video editing (Premier Pro) and special FX work (in After Effects, Maya, NUKE, etc). Just wondering what the best motherboard and CPU are for this set-up?
Money is no matter, and I'm happy for overkill to future proof myself as well. I'll be working with RED Epic footage at both 5k and 6k resolution. I plan to get 64GB of Corsair CL9 Dominator Platinum RAM, 1200W Corsair AX-1200|80 Plantinum PSU, EVGA GTX TITAN 6GB SUPERCLOCKED (Don't want Quadro cards, personally don't find the cost to performance substantial). I've been tossing up between i7-4960X Extreme or the i7 Xeon but I don't really know much about them. I'll be running about 20TB worth of storage on WD RED NAS drives plus datacentre drives as well. Want to configure them into RAID systems (this is where my computer knowledge starts to fall lol) Any help on motherboard and CPU would be awesome and any suggestions on anything else would be as well :) Thanks all.

This is the best solution for you.
http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Eight-Core-E5-2690-Processor-BX80621E52690/dp/B007H29F14/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1387854500&sr=8-16&keywords=intel+xeon

For motherboard i recommend dual slot motherboard

Asus Z9PE-D8 WS would be a useful Xeon Motherboard.

Xeon is much better because they support multi channel Memory which means you will be able to utilize your RAM better.

For Video Editing, more than the Card the amount of VRAM matters for such high resolution rendering scenes.
A Sapphire Radeon Toxic 7970 6gb version can just as easily render your scenes taking advantage of OpenCL technology for 500 dollars as a 1000 dollar GTx Titan taking advantage of CUDA tech.

Really the difference is the Quadro cards, but you already excluded them for that matter.

If you want to buy the Titan just to edit videos at high resolution the VRAM can easily be had for 500 dollars from a Sapphire Toxic card...
If you want to it to game and all other stuff too, then off course Titan is a clear winner.

good luck with your build.
