is it possible to clone an iMac g4 to a Powerbook g4?

I have an iMac g4 800 mhz and a Powerbook g4 1.5 ghz 17" laptop with both the same hard drive size.

would it be possible to do a bit for bit clone and would the operating system still work? drivers and all?

I doubt it. But rather than asking why not just try it and see if it works.

Is Target Disk Mode supported on those models? If so it might be an easy way to try it first.

That's the way to do it if you have a FireWire cable. Otherwise you'd have to create an image file on an external drive.

But the install disks supplied with Macs of that age were specific to the model so I doubt that an installed system can simply be transferred.

so i tried it, but my Win 7 computer wont recognize the hard drives. is there a Mac way to do it (if you know)?

I already told you. Target disk mode or an image file on an external HD. But don't hold out any high hopes of it working.

ok, so i figured it out.... I tried it, and it worked, i just had to make a bootable clone. I used a 3rd party software called CCC (carbon copy cloner).
