R9 270 overheating?

Just got a R9 270, the Battlefield 4 edition, assembled by Gigabyte, and immediately things seem to go weird. Let me explain:

First of all, the card has two PCI-e connectors instead of one, and I've been said several times that the 270 model only has one 6-pin connector, while the 270X model is the one that has two.

Second, whenever I try to do some gaming (Like maxed Saint's Row the Third, Alan Wake or Team Fortress 2), the PC suddenly shuts off after a while.

I really don't have a clue about what's causing this, but I'll leave here all the information I can:

My CPU is an AMD FX-6300, with 4 GB of HyperX BLU RAM, and an ASRock 980 DE3/US3 mobo. I have a 500W PSU which doesn't have any 6-pin PCIe connectors, so I'm forced to use every Molex and the two adaptors that came with the graphics card to power it up (4 total Molex connectors converted into two 6-pin PCIe connectors)

I'm running Windows 7 x64.

I'm using the latest non-beta drivers from the AMD website.

What can I do?

I would download a utility called MSI afterburner. This tool allows you to monitor and tweak fan speeds, temperatures, voltages, and clock frequencies of your GPU.
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm
What you can do is use the program to watch the temp of your GPU while playing a game (Alt +Tab). If it gets unusually high, crank the fan speed slider to maximum and apply it and see if that helps.
