My GPU is dysfunctional

Ever since I built my computer a couple years ago, I had problems with the stability of the GPU, an MSI HD 6950 Twin Frozr II. Graphics in games would flicker or stretch randomly, even my browser would do the same things on the worst days. However, it wouldn't do it all the time so I dealt with it.

After almost a year of using it daily, I found this "max temperature" thing at the top when looking at MSI Afterburner (which I used to change the fan speed, etc.). I was just wondering if this could have had anything to do with this problem.

so if anybody knows how I could change the "max temperature" as it shows up in the image, that would be great.

(The problem really was awful. It would make games unplayable and programs unusable, and if I had epilepsy I surely would have had multiple fits at this point. I have often thought of getting a new card but decided against it because it would work some of the time.)

uuum... not quite sure what ur asking... but you cant "change" the max temp... that is merely a graph to showing the hottest your gpu has been? ... forgive if im reading your post wrong

at a glance it sounds like either, your gpu is stuffed, or your power supply is inadequate .. im guessing over the year of owning the gpu you have updated the drivers as they have been released? and if thats made no differnce then its likeley hardware related, and psu or faulty card are the main causes ... did you buy the card new or 2nd hand ?

by the way ... 45 degrees is well within operating temperatures, one thing you could do is game heavily until the artifacts appear and then check after burner and if your card is like ... at a guess, over 80 - 90 degrees (celsius?) then cooling is your problem

I got it new. the highest I've ever seen it is in the high 50s Celsius, which is still within a good temp range, and I always check when I see flickers or artifacts. I've thought that it might have been the psu, but there's not inadequate power at 1050W(or maybe it is just faulty). I've updated the drivers countless times. I've tried baking the card multiple times, which didn't change a thing.

What I was asking about the "max temp" is that maybe the gpu had it set that way so that it would partially shut down once it got to that temperature. It's far-fetched, I know, but maybe it's possible.

i guess you could try installing it in another/ a mates computer and see if operates without problems, if it doesnt then its the gpu if it does then your having hardware issues

i cant imagine that the card shuts down partially at 50 degrees
