I bought a new CPU (i7 4770) and attached its fan. This CPU comes with its original thermal paste. A day after that and the 2nd day after that I had to remove the fan since I was checking if CPU is properly inserted.

Do you think that I need to apply a new thermal paste now? I am contemplating since this one is pretty new and the CPU did not work more than 1 min since it was auto-applied by attaching its fan on the cpu.

Solution

if cpu is tripping due to thermal issue then reapply thermal paste.

Check my first question here. The conf would not boot due to bad PSU so I had to recheck the CPU as well based on the checklist I got here.

OK thanks. And how should I know the cause of a sudden shutdown is thermal paste? Should I (in case of an odd shutdown) run the BIOS and check the CPU temperature or there is a better solution to figure out if thermal paste should be reapplied?

when there is a problem of heatsink contact with processor you will see processors temperature very high hanging and when you touch heatsink that will be very cool which means heatsink is loose or u will have to reapply the paste.
