Hi.

In June I purchased this Avatar desktop.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
It worked fine all summer then in November it started to have a problem. I will be playing games or working and the monitor will turn black and say that there is no signal detected.

When this happens there is no way to get the signal back other than turning the machine off and then back on. However the power button on the front of the case will not turn it off no matter how long it's held down.

After reading a bit on here I thought maybe it was the power supply that was the issue and put in a 500W PS that I had lying around (nothing higher available). That didn't fix the issue.

I thought maybe Windows 8 was the issue so I reinstalled through the "Reset" feature in Windows 8 itself. This made the issue worse than ever. Now the bios screen shows up and then the monitor does not get any more signal. No matter how many times I try to restart it I can never get past the point of the bios.

Any help would be amazing! Thanks!

I don't know the make and model of the motherboard but I can tell you the things I see written on it. FCGigabyte GA-78-LMT-S2, AMD processor, DX10, HT3.0, AM3+, ErP ready, Designed in Taipei (probably not helpful)
The hard drive was normal when I could get into it as recently as last night.

Thanks for your reply.

I was able to run the @BIOS program from the website. So far everything is going ok. Windows reset to a brand new install. Should I go ahead and update windows with all the new security updates etc?

Posting this from the computer in question. Seems like everything is ok! Thanks so much for your help. Is there anything I should monitor or watch to make sure this doesn't happen again?

So after all the windows updates we are back to square one. I'm having to fight it to get past the bios screen. That means it is one of the windows updates I would assume but there were 88 of them.

About every third time I power up the machine windows will start. The amount of time that I have to do anything with it is variable.

all your parts are working fine(no doubt), what happens the first 2 times???does your machine even start up???

what did you mean by this " The amount of time that I have to do anything with it is variable"

The first two times I will see the bios screen but then there will be no signal. Sometimes I won't hear the beep that comes with startup and nothing at all will happen. When it does get to windows I'll have 3-5 minutes of functionality before there is no signal to the monitor. But there is no indication of whether it will be 3 minutes or 5 minutes.

Thanks for all your help.

seems like a failing motherboard..." Sometimes I won't hear the beep that comes with startup and nothing at all will happen"

you better get in touch with avatar customer care and get an rma or whatever they deem fit.

good luck and sorry mate.

forget about this now and enjoy christmas :)
