system:
Win 7 64 bit
i5 3.30 sandy bridge @
ati 6850 w/ 2 gig
GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 Motherboard
8 gig DDR3 @ 665 mh 9/9/9/24
650 watt power supply
Samsung 840 pro SSD

While gaming, COD Ghosts regularly freezes. I have updated all drivers, run graphics on low, etc. but still I crash almost daily. I have noticed GPU is running around 50 - 55 degrees while gaming, 35/40 normally. This seems hot but I'm not certain it's the reason for the crashes, though they do seem to happen when I'm running fast. I have also blown all dust off everything in the case. No change.

The following links shows cards in my budget (under $300 is best). So which card do I pick - I'd rather not make an uninformed decision - please advise or perhaps recommend another?

Updated links - oops.

Thanks!

Your card should be at least playable, but it seems like the 68xx series has had some drivers issues.

50-55 degrees is not hot for a gpu. Those temps are high for a CPU, but a GPU can easily push 70-90 degrees.

The links you provided all take me to the newegg home page.

One thing that I have noticed is that nVidia drives are generally a bit more mature and stable.

I would check this review and see what they have to say.

I have updated the links. Looking for card recommendations. Also, the cards I chose are all nvidia as I have been told they are better for gaming. Probably an old wives tale.

All your links go to the Newegg home page , you may need to recopy the links or just list the cards.

Any of these would be a good upgrade.

You know, the cards I picked are $50+ more expensive than these, I am happy to spend less if there isn't a significant difference? I'm such a neophyte.

Before you jump on a new GPU, COD Ghosts has a lot of problems for both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. The game is settling out to be a really, really bad port especially with our in house benchmarks pointing to such.

In general Nvidia is going to run a bit more expensive than ATI.

Any of the links that both of you posted will work very well.

Nvidia is not necessarily better than ATI, just the drivers for Nvidia tend to be a bit more mature. Although for a single card it isn't really as big of a deal as it is with SLI.

If you go with the Nvidia route, I would suggest one of the MSI cards, as their aftermarket cooling solution is incredibly well designed.
