So my son and I are just finishing our first build for gaming. I bought a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate at the advice of one of the guys at Tiger Direct. Was going to give it to my son tomorrow for Xmas installation...Did I buy the right OS for gaming? Do any of the community experts have an opinion here?

Solution
Nope you should be good, just get the latest ASUS drivers from ASUS support, the GeForce driver from NVIDIA, and the Linksys driver from them.

Im only using W7 Home premium for gaming. For me, when it comes to gaming, Devices are more important like GPU, CPU, RAM, PSU, Better CPU cooler.

You don't need Ultimate, but it has a few handy network related features, and compared to Home Premium can run XPMode (with a few free downloads from MS), which can play a lot of older games that don't run well in W7. Unless you have time to run out and exchange it for Pro or Home Premium, I would just go with it and not look back.

edit: And Merry Christmas!

Not really, but it would help to know what hardware. Set the SATA mode to AHCI in the bios. If you have time today, download the drivers that you will need for the hardware (chipset, Ethernet, sound, and if needed USB3, wireless and graphic card driver).
